best paint for a wooden table

I have a desk I want to paint (wood) that I plan to use as a sewing table.

I'll be using either Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore paint.

What is the best paint to use that will allow me to set a heavy sewing machine on top after the paint has dried - or do I have to wait the 90 days for it to "cure" to prevent the tackiness - without damaging the paint job?

Suggestions please.

Edit: I googled my info and read that an oil based paint is probably best for a harder finish. I also read that coating it (once the final coat has cured for a week or so) with Paste Wax can help.

Any feedback/experience on topcoating with Paste Wax?

A sewing machine is probably going to damage the finish forever.

Find a cutting board (clear or any color) with beveled edges that will cover the footprint of the sewing machine. Embed it to the sewing table top with clear adhesive caulk. A pencil tip bead around the edge is all that's needed to secure it.

Painting the old table freshen the looks of that old table. To paint the wooden things there are some few things you have to keep in mind you don't need to scratch these and give a few coats of paint, you will prepare the surface by sanding it and paint the table with premier before painting it with the any paint.

I just finished my kitchen table with rustoleum painter's touch furniture paint in semi gloss. so far all drips and dried up sauce wipes out fine. i painted my scratched up wood table in white semi gloss. no primer needed and no sanding needed. paint wasn't too smelly either. i did 7 coats of white over dark brown wood and part of table was wood veneer. this paint is holding up so far and it's not oil based.
