Eggshell on ceiling?

I'm using an eggshell paint finish on the walls of my new kitchen/greatroom. I have 8.5 ft and 9.5ft ceilings in the area. What are the pros/cons of using a lighter version of the wall color in eggshell on the ceiling? Should I use a flat paint instead? The walls and ceiling are new and smooth.

Any sheen on the ceiling will highlight defects - which are inevitable. Unless you have a textured ceiling (which hides defects) and/or you plan on washing it regularly (never happens), stick with flat.

If there are defects in your new ceiling, they will be visible after primer, and then they can be "pointed up" by the drywall finisher. Then use whichever paint finish you want. I painted my kitchen ceiling with eggshell, and since I did the drywall myself (5/8" baby!) it was free of defects, nail pops and blemishes. I think eggshell is more stain resistant, in case I ever get crazy with tomato sauce or something.
