cutting in on stairwell

I'm going to need to paint the interior in the near future and for budget reasons I need to do it myself, which is fine, since I like to paint, although I'm not terrific at it. The one part which is puzzling me is how to cut in on the stairwell.

Luckily my stairs have a half landing, so I can reach the top of the back wall and part of the side walls with an extension ladder, and I can get part way at the other end of the side walls from the landing, but there's a space of about two to three feet in the middle of each side wall that will be out of reach.

Does anyone have any suggestions for an extension paint pad or other gizmo you'd recommend for reaching to cut in those areas? It hardly seems worth rigging scaffolding for such a limited area. (At the landing the ceiling is only 7 ft high, so it's not one of those ginormous stairwells--I need sideways reach more than vertical for those spots.)
