| Contemplating taking on the ginormous task of painting the exterior our house. I know this is a ridiculously huge job and want to go into it armed with the best tools possible.
If I do decide to go ahead with this plan, is it worth the $500-600 to purchase the Silent Paint Remover? Does it work on VERY old houses with multiple layers of paint? This house is 140+ years old with who knows how many layers of paint/stain on it. Thanks!

| I have the Speedheater, which is very similar. It probably works better on clapboard than the smaller areas I had been trying to use it on. Mind didn't seem to heat evenly, but that could have been operator error. Most people in my area - historic area of a small city - don't go down to bare paint on the clapboards. They scrape, maybe sand some, and then prime and paint. It doesn't look as good, but it's an easier process than trying to get down to completely bare wood. |

| Thanks! I'll be posting pics of the uncovered original siding in a second to get some opinions on painting it...the wood itself looks in ok shape and there's no flaking paint, which I hope is a good sign! Sarah |
