This just happens with some brands. You can load the stain up behind that wood and hope it runs down there to stain the entire area, but it's a pain. If you leave it long enough, the sun coming through the glass will cook that back part of that wood and eventually it will become black. It has always been my position that this problem is entirely the fault of the manufacturer with the design. They need to make the units so that you cannot see the back side of the interior wood from the exterior. What brand is it? I can't wait to hear what they say.

Paintguy, thank you for your reply. The brand is Rogue Valley and you are probably right that it's the fault of the design.
You have obviously seen this before.
My husband has been on the phone with everyone possible this morning and waiting for a couple of calls back. I will let you know what happens.
What would you suggest to get stain {{gwi:807}} behind there? A small paintbrush perhaps? Thank you again.

Update: Supplier suggested pulling moldings away from glass and staining behind. That's what the painter is doing with my husband on the other side of the door guiding him. Thank goodness it's working well, though very time consuming.
