Paint + New Shingle Question

Hello All,

We recently had a section of our cedar shingle siding redone and painted. It was a section that was fairly warped/cupped because of some long standing ice dam issues we also recently resolved.

I'm trying to get the painter to hit the rough spots with a sander and put another coat an the area. However, he says he's never heard of this being necessary. Two coats of Benjamin Moore were sprayed on the grey pre-primed shingles.

I know cedar shingles can get rough spots on them, however this seems to be more than usual.

The older sections of the house have far fewer rough spots and the house does not look consistent. What should I have the painter do, is it too much to ask him to sand and add another finish coat?
