Ceiling 911

I hope someone can give me some advice. The painters are here and want to start painting the ceilings today. My problem is a very large family room ceiling that extends into the foyer and down the upstairs hall. It has one slanted wall, and is two levels high. I'm putting a clay beige on the walls, and am afraid that I won't like the ceiling if it's very light. I don't know if I should cut the wall paint down to 50% and put it on the ceiling, continue with the light sand color that I've chosen for the other ceilings, cut it to 20%, paint just the slanted part the wall color, etc.etc.etc..... My head is spinning. Of course the painters want to paint the ceiling the light sand. I am a very traditional person, but the ceiling is really too high. Does anyone have any guidance to give? Thanks so much!
