Thanks very much, guys! Phew! The scuffing sounds a bit less labor intensive! :-)

Our painters suggested using the wasted paint on some exterior woodwork - doors, louvers etc. Do you think that a high gloss alkyd would be suitable for this purpose, or should we cut our losses?!

Interior paint shouldn't be used outside and certainly oil based paint should not be used outside.

Sounds like it was the painter's mistake. You shouldn't have to pay for the wasted paint, IMO.
