never, ever paint copper, what's the point???

Definitely do not paint the copper. It will do its thing and turn a wonderful greenish color after exposure to the elements.

You'd be adding a maintenance issue to a maintenance-free material for which you have already paid a considerable premium. So, why?
If you wanted a paintable flashing to better match painted siding, you should have used roofing tin (terne) at 1/4 of the cost.

I wasn't really thinking about paint when I decided on the copper flashing just looking for the best material for the job.

That said, my chimney guy & the sheet metal co. making a new chimney cover/cap, both recommended stainless steel not copper for that job so, I'm going to have all copper flashing & a stainless chimney cap....Hmmm?

OK, If not painting copper... The roofers did splash some black tar & stucco on areas...What's the best way to handle these areas. moving forward?

Call the roofers back, their problem, not yours. If it were me, I would ask the sheet metal guy, Why not copper for the cap?

The roofers don't care; they insist I paint it and have the painter deal with it.

The sheet metal guy mentioned something about "due to the size of the chimney vs the sheets of copper, I'd have a seam...And I don't want a seam".

Others have advised stainless also due to "water wash off" from the copper, which will "bleed" green all over my nice soon to be newly painted chimney & new white tile roof.

I would fight that for sure.

Having enough problems getting the roofers to finish the roof.
