Sure - that's one option. That color strategy agrees with a lot of people and their 'calm and consistent' tolerance for color.

Aligning paint colors by tone for an entire house is actually easier said than done, however. Sometimes I think those who like to offer advice like that haven't ever really tried to do it. :)

I think that because the color tip about using the same intensity room to room is usually followed by another tip stating all you have to do is choose colors from the same position on a chip strip. For example, "always choose the third one down on the strip and you're guaranteed all the colors with go together and flow."

That simply is not true.

Collections of colors, fandecks, chip strips are not arranged with the intent of aligning color characteristics like intensity. If it happens that a handful of 'third colors down', for example, do indeed align in some way it's pure coincidence.

Coincidence does not a solid color strategy make.
