sanding trim paint

Hi, I've just painted my door frames and trim in a room with water based trim paint (I've always used oil based in the past) but I'm not happy with the result. The gloss sheen has a plastic look about it and I can still see a few brush marks so I want to give it a light sand to even it out and paint over with some semi-gloss instead. Just wondering if I need to let it cure a bit first before sanding and for how long? There's no hurry on this project so if there's an optimum amount of time to leave it then that's what I'll do. thanks!
