seeking exterior painting advice!

Hi All, we are about to have the exterior of our house painted, and my head is spinning from the input from various painters! Our house is new, and the siding is pre-primed. However, the primer has faded since the siding was installed in November, and there are lots of nail holes (stainless steel), etc. to fill.

Some of our estimates call for one coat of oil based primer and one coat of latex paint while others call for a coat of latex primer and then two coats of latex paint. I am not sure about the best approach and would love some input! (Also, one painter talked about using Sherwin Williams Duration for primer while another painter talked about using A-100.)

Any thoughts about the best way to get a long-lasting paint job? We live in New England, and the front of our house is North-facing. I would love to get the most life possible out of the paint job.

Thank you so much!

sara
