Behr sand paint

I have an upstairs bath that has seen lots of leaks and other wall damage and we painted it with Behr sand paint several years ago. Now we have some renovations taking place to finally fix some of the wall problems and we wonder if we are better off to just rip out all of the drywall and start over or can you paint over the sand paint?
Anyone have any experience with this sand paint issue?

You can paint right over it. The only possible drawback is that painting over it may reduce the sandy effect some. In other words, you may not see the texture as much.

I decided to get the drywall guy to skim the walls and they look great! Just like a fresh canvas!
