Polyurethane Perils

I have only used polyurethane a few times. Mainly on painted furniture, The one of the last times I used it although it was dry to the touch, afterward anytime I sit something on it, it stuck. I have even had glass break trying to get it off. What would be the reason for that?

Can't say for sure but dry to the touch happens way before fully cured. I'd wait a couple of days before putting the surface to use. Could be the paint underneath was not cured. Were you using a water or solvent based varnish?
