Hot and cold

I'm a little confused about temperatures when painting.
Temps of the air, the surfaces to be painted, and the paint temp.

Some say hot (80 and up) is not good. But, then they say that heating the paint is a good idea. Huh?

Cold is not good? But coolish is, as it helps with flow out?
what?

70 maybe optimal?
OK.

Anyone have any painting temperature wisdom??
