How to protect paint from blemishes

I have been using Sherwin Williams latex-based interior paint to paint walls and doors and I've noticed that it is extremely easy to accidentally get a mark on it even just from a cardboard box accidentally rubbing up against it. Absolutely anything that touches the walls will leave a mark behind even on walls that were painted many months ago; it's very irritating. We used a matte paint to hide cosmetic flaws inherent to the walls and doors and we don't want to use something that will cause a shine.

My question is, does anyone know how to protect this seemingly-delicate paint from getting scratches? I called the local SW store and they played dumb with me, so they were no help.
