Paint to use on Kitchen Cabinets - Conversion varnish ?

I am trying to determine wheat kind/brand of paint I should use on new unfinished shaker style kitchen cabinets
I will be spraying these and wanted to use Conversion Varnish ?

Do I paint them first then spay conversion varnish on top, or do you tint the confusion varnish white then spray ??

What would be the best paint for spraying : Benjamin Moore or Dunn Edwards, etc

I am trying to mimic some cabinets I saw : Christopher Peacock in a beautiful white finish

This is an old post but it is worth adding to it for others. There is a new product called a "water based conversion varnish" or sometimes "Water based conversion finish". It is pre-catalyzed so there is no mixing to worry about. It is water borne and low VOC (at least the ones I have seen) but has many of the finish characteristics of a classic Conversion Varnish such as high resistance to chemicals. It still has to be sprayed on but clean up is with water.

I do not know , when you want to use Conversion Varnish on cabinets, is this a top coat over regular paint, or is the conversion varnish the actual paint coat?

The way someone xplained it to me is that it is like a top clear coat, but I do not know if this is correct

The varnish is a finish coat( as far as I understand it), how you get them white first is the question. If it was up to me, I would prep, prime and paint them white and be done with it.

I spray a lot of conversion varnish. It is not a DIY type finish. I would never spray it in a house. A catalyzed finish such as conversion varnish can only be applied over another catalyzed finish or used as a self sealing system over raw or stained wood. You would not be able to breathe in the house while the finish was off gassing. We professional finishers use explosion proof exhaust systems in a spray, not at all feasible in a DIY.
