Painting Advice - small amusement ride

Hi All;
I need to repaint the deck of a small amusement ride that has become rusty in places but I don't know much about painting. I am specifically interested in knowing how to prep the areas that need painting and what type of paint to use to paint on metal that will be exposed to the elements. I have attached a picture that shows one of the areas that needs painting so you'll get a better idea of what I'm trying to do. Thanks for any advice you can give me. Tim

I would use a wire brush to scrape away most of the rust then wipe it down with a moist micro fiber rag. I say microfiber because they work at picking up particles easily. Once it dries spray some primer on it that is made for metal and once that dries spray or paint metal paint on it. I usually use spray paint made for metal when I paint metal but if you have to use regular exterior paint make sure its oil based.
