I would paint it white, but just so you know, slapping a coat of white paint on it is not gonna work. Prep is the key, prep, prep, prep.

Start with the walls first. So much easier, and will likely make a ton a difference. The cabinets look beautiful. And painting them will be a bear. Try the easier stuff first and see if you get comfortable with your look.

If you just bought the house, you should live with the colors for a while. Your opinion may change over time.

What wood are you referring to exactly? The cabinets? The molding around the room? Or both?

If you paint the cabinets, you will need to find a color that goes very well with the countertop, and I am not sure white would be the best color with those countertops.

As christophern points out, painting cabinets is a lot of work. Much more than you can imagine if you haven't done it before.

I would think about painting the walls a lighter color. Or possibly darker.

I was not talking about the cabinets, just the trim. They look like cherry cabinets and the trim just looks dated to me. I would , by all means, start with the walls.

I would not paint the wood white. I would start with the wall color and put down different flooring--I'm currently in love with acacia hardwoods or engineered. I would change backsplash too.

Maybe its just me, but painted white woodwork & trim looks dated to me. If I had to paint I would make it some sort of creamy gray, tan, or even a browny-green that harmonized well with the wall color and wood.

I would paint the trim off-white. Dark wood trim seems to outline a room too much, whereas off-white kind of recedes and make the room look bigger.
