 o
concrete porch

My daughter and I bought this house about a year and a half ago. We are told that it is about a hundred year old Sears. there are three colors on the exterior, that I would never have put together but it is beautiful, they are a off white, cream color, pale green, and a terra cotta. the only paint I am familiar with is Benjamin Moore, that would put the terra cotta between Navajo red 2171-10 and fire dance 2171-20 the green would be between Stratford blue hc 142 and wedgewood grey hc 146 I am getting way off the subject the house is brick the front porch goes across the entire front of it,brick trim around the edge the rest of the porch is concrete and does not look as though it has ever been painted. When it rains the red clay does not come off easily. I want to paint it in the green color. I would like a finish that would rinse easily with the hose, but being in my sixties,do not want to be afraid of slipping and breaking my neck. I hope I got back on the subject enough to be understood. Thank you in advanc for any help you can offer. Gail

RE: concrete porch

I've used Muralo's products with pretty good luck on concrete. Not slick. On our interior concrete floor (utility room) I used Quick Tred (water based). On a rental house, exterior concrete porch that had been previously painted, I used Super Tred (oil-based). Both have held well, although I am noticing some flaking on the Super Tred on the exterior concrete, but that could be due to the prior paint underneath. (I pressure washed like a mad woman but some of that old paint would not come off when I wanted it too ;)

There is a pic (an older one) over in Home Dec of stained concrete walkway that is really nice. Might be worth asking over there, or searching google so you can see pics of some.

Thank you so much, I do not think this has been painted,if it has they used the same color as the concrete, and the grout on the brick border.where do you find Muralo's?

RE: concrete porch

You're welcome ;) Independent paint dealers in my area carry it (not big box stores like HD or Lowes). Link below is to their dealer locator page. I see they've recently begun selling decorative flecks as additive to some products in their line to improve slip resistance. (I saw someone's basement floor recently painted with those flecks and it didn't look bad. Definitely a matter of personal preference with those.) I added sand (from the paint store) to some solid stain I was putting on our deck one year. That helped give a bit more traction.

Here is a link that might be useful: Muralo Authorized Dealer Locator
