Bite the bullet and remove all that is loose. If you can get a blade under it, it's loose.

Oh boy. I don't know how big these patches could get. I was scolding myself yesterday for making more of a mess than necessary. I am patching this myself.

Will see how it goes. It is kind of fun to do! Just not sure I can un-do the whole mess!

It is good to know you don't think I'm screwing up making a bigger mess by getting carried away though! Which is why I asked ;)

So, I guess I don't have to trowel a large "fixed" area over entirely. It will feather out at some point from the edges and the rest can just be the bare drywall. Right? That makes me feel better. The drywall does get knicked up though.

I do like peeling this stuff off, lol.

Get it all off, have fun.. You will only have to skim coat the edges and feather them out, no bid deal. Then you need to apply a proper primer, not what ewer was done before.
Zinsser's 123 would be my choice.

So, what grade sandpaper do you suggest for sanding the edges? I' did some with 80 and it does affect the paper. Moved to 150. Is that okay? What do you use? I have to sand over the paper lightly due to nicks and such. There might be some sort of residue on it too. Not sure.

I'll be Gardzing the areas that are raw paper, it's damaged.

150 should work OK

But stay away from 80 to keep from scuffing the paper?
