Exterior Paint for Hardie w/ Cedar Batts

Hello,

Haven't really been able to find this info online so hopefully you can help.

Just finishing a garage that I sided with 4' x 8' hardie panel in a cedarmill texture. Plan on 1" x 4" cedar batts every 12" and the same cedar 1" X 4 " for trim around windows/doors.

Trying to have the garage look similar to the house in texture in color. House is naturally stained vertical cedar planks.

Question is what type of exterior paint would you recommend and in what finish? At first I was thinking of a flat finish but now I'm not sure. Planning on 2 coats and rolling it on but I'm a newbie to this so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I live in a rural area and the highest quality paint I can get locally is clark and kennisington for ACE. Is paint something you get what you pay for or are you paying for the Brand Name?

I'm also thinking of oil priming the cedar batts and painting them with the same paint I choose for the hardie. But not sure how well cedar will hold paint but having a stained batt over painted siding might become problematic when it comes time to recoat.
