Wicker/rattan barstools

Found 4 of these for $12 each and want to paint them white. Currently they are natural/brown with a clear gloss coat. Would like some paint advice please.

Take one to the paint store so they can see what's on there. Because it's not like you can sand rattan to prep it.

Guessing they will recommend some kind of primer in a spray can before final coat of white.
