Last summer I painted my kitchen and dining room BM Putnam Ivory. I liked it so much that I painted the attached living room the same color.

When painting samples on the wall, I found that nearby colors had a huge impact on how colors looked. Putnam Ivory had no gray at all in any light - until I painted a 3'x3' patch over the yellow/gold walls in my kitchen. It looked gray in every kind of light, any time of day. I painted a few more samples of similar colors on the same wall, covering up all the yellow - and the first sample showed its true color, which is a nice warm cream.
