Not your everyday paint question- birdhouse gourds

I am in the process of making a front yard garden and one of the things I want to do is put a number of birdhouses both wood and birdhouse gourds up for the birds.
I bought some craft acrylics, but I also have leftover primer and house paint. I'm wondering if that would work- a coat of primer, paint the gourd with house paint (exterior, or could I use interior?) and then use the brightly colored craft acrylics for the decorative part?

I don't know if it will stick to a gourd but give it a try( exterior only) why not?
