my contract says in pantry there will be paint grade shelving, I thought this to mean paint grade wood because he said that in the master bath the vanity was paint grade, and it was painted wood. Now he says that if I don't upgrade for $1,000 for melamine shelving it will be particle board, My question is this ,Can you refer to particle board as paint grade?

RE: Paint grad shelving

Sure, why not? I imagine anything that is intended to be painted can be called 'paint grade'.
