Best way to prep 1 ext. wall only for testing new paint colors

Our 1907 Folk Victorian is scheduled to be professionally painted in June. In the meantime I would like to take advantage of the nice weather and try out the colors (6 total in BM Moreglo) on a large area to make sure the colors are cohesive BEFORE June.

The siding all over the house is fir clapboard and the area I would like to try the samples on is in pretty good shape. Since the house tested positive for lead (the paint contractor painting the house is certified for the lead prep) I was thinking about just washing the area with TSP then painting..skipping the sanding portion.

Am I creating more work for the painters in June..or is this enough prep just to sample in the meantime? OMG $90.00 for 6 quarts of paint so I don't want to be frivoulous!
