Painting a door - paint the sides too?

Posted by oceangirlme (My Page) on

I have a door that is currently stained on all sides. The door opens into the bathroom and stands flush against a wall when open.

The bathroom side of the door is being painted. What is the rule of thumb - should I paint the sides of the door as well or leave them stained?

In your case you would leave the hinge edge in stain, and paint the latch edge; that's the way colors "break" on a door.
