Protection for painted wood surfaces

We just went through 25 gallons of oil paint spraying all the wood work in the new house we are building. There are four areas where I would like to put down some sort of clear protective film on painted surfaces: a bench in an eating nook, a folding table in the master closet, a desk and cubbies where laundry baskets will be kept. I was wondering if anyone has ever used something like clear bra protective film that you would typically use for protecting automotive paint to protect painted wood surfaces.
