Family room paint color

I would love help picking a color to brighten up a dark family room! I live on a tree lined lot that blocks light from coming in limited windows in my family room. I also have beautiful med honey toned wainscoting on the lower half of the room (similar to a library) as well as 2 built in bookshelves in the same color. Add 2 chocolate brown leather sofas and you have one dark room. I would love to brighten up this room but I am having a hard time picking a color. It is currently a golden color but even that looks so dark. I am tempted to go white but am fearful that would be so stark and boring. I love the quality of Benjamin Moore paint. Any suggestions friends?

If you don't get responses here, I would suggest taking a couple photos of the room and posting them on the Home Decorating forum.

My painter is doing the Living Room in Benjamin Moore Popcorn Kernel as I type. I am also attempting to brighten the room. I can post the final result on Sunday if you are interest. But you can see it in a room here

Here is a link that might be useful: Popcorn Kernel

RE: Family room paint color

White reflects light better than any other color.

If white is too boring then maybe an ivory color?
