Painting Interior Chimney

I am not sure where to post my question. I removed the wallpaper from an interior concrete chimney that runs through our our upstairs/downstairs room(s). Pictured is the front of the chimney in my sewing room. The back side of the chimney is in the next room. I am thinking I would like to paint instead of doing the wallpaper thing. Would textured paint be okay? Or, any suggestions?
The chimney color is gray; with remnants of wall paper showing.
