The prevailing wisdom is that color samples are "not real paint," but I used a color sample on a small wall in my bathroom about a year ago and it has held up fine. And it gets sunshine on it daily.

I believe, however, these samples only come in flat paint, and you probably want some sort of sheen for the mirror. Places like Michaels, Hobby Lobby or Jo-Ann Fabrics have all sorts of paints in small bottles. Any basic acrylic paint is going to do the job.

Actually, several years ago I painted an entire small bathroom with a SW paint sample. In fact, I believe it was the same color you mentioned, Kilim Beige. It looks fine and has held up well!

The guy at the paint store told me it is not real paint and doesn't hold up well. Could have been the color, I'm not sure. But they aren't formulated to last like their products.

For a small mirror project, I don't think I'd worry about it. You could paint it and then seal over it. I would use a good primer first. You could even make it into a chalk paint, which is supposed to stick to anything. Those old cheap builder flat paints break down over time. I'm dealing with it now in my house and it is not fun!
