I am currently building a storage closet in the end of our basement, as part of a larger remodel.

I was able to install the shelving today. All I have left to do is put in the support brackets, then i can set the door and trim it out.

You have cleats--where will you need support brackets? Where the shelves turn the corner on the upper level? The lower levels don't look like they need anything more but a coat of primer and paint. (do the "Martha" thing and paint the inside of that closet some beautiful, surprising color

They look great--congrats on the work!

My own personal frustration w/ the storage closets in my home (all inherited from previous owners) is that the shelves are spaced too far apart. And since they're installed w/ cleats, like yours, they're not adjustable.

I see a bin on there--did you plot the spacing to accommodate it? (If it had been me, I'd have wanted there to be about 1/2 inch above that bin--because otherwise I just know I'd be shoving all sorts of stupid stuff in the gap--even if that gap is only 2".

Thanks for letting us see your results! (I wish I had a space to stand in my closets--I end up piling stuff in the middle.

Since the shelves are 4 feet wide, I am putting a central support below each shelf. This is just to make sure they don't sag in the center over time. I don't think they will, but for about $2 per shelf, is worth it.

We set the spacing on these shelves to accomodate bins like the one shown. I thought about putting just a small bit of space there, but they are harder to pull out - especially the high ones. Also, the bins can vary from 12" (shown) to 13" high.

they are harder to pull out

ah, I hadn't thought of that--you are right, I have experienced that need to be able to begin tipping the bin before it's out of the shelf. I'd forgotten.

Great thoughts for the rest of us!
