I like the plate rack idea, mostly because it's unusual (most of the inspiration photos I've found have been pegboard or some imitation thereof). But I want to investigate other sizes. There's this, w/ adjustable slots: Copco Adjustable Bakeware Organizer This metal one--don't know how big the spaces are between (I may order a bunch of these from Amazon and send back the ones I don't like!) I could try a pan organizer, which might have wider gaps, but they do stick out pretty far. This one is actually sort of cool! another metal one Then again, I could just hammer nails into the wood--that's be cheap, and customizable.

I could also get out the foam board and the hot-glue gun, and make something the way I made my light-bulb box, right?
|
Great ideas as usual. While I don't have a need to store Nerf Guns, with your post I have now identified an item in my miscellaneous bucket...a Nerf bullet. Now I can remove that item and relocate it to my DGS's house. Thanks!

Talley Sue, I've heard you mention peg board before, so I'm linking to a picture of Nerf guns on peg board. I'm not sure if peg board would work in the space you have, though. I'm also not sure if foam board would stand up to the way some boys would shove the guns back in the stand/rack. It depends on how gentle your son is with his things.

Camlan, thanks for the link! I've seen a few pegboard ones, but most of them take up a big horizontal swath of wall. But this is a nice clear shot of how the hooks work together to keep the guns level. I'm going to start w/ Command hooks (the wire kind, below) to see if they work; if they're not long enough or not strong enough, I may go get some huge honking nails, and hammer them in at the right spots.

Well, I tried it out, and those hooks aren't nearly long enough. So I'm going to go with nails. I bought some 4" ones--huge!! I'm also going to hang some of the guns upside down so that the weight distribution is easier to support; I negotiated that w/ my son. But I've decided I'll need to do something to outline where the guns go, so that'll be fun later, after I've hammered stuff in

We have a ton of nerf guns as well and used a deck box to store them. It fits over 14 of various sizes including a couple of very large ones, without breaking the bank.

I swear, I didn't move those images. Anyway, here's the link to the album on Photobucket.

I think the wall mounted solution is the coolest looking, but I wonder how it will stand up to hard use. I also liked the metal grid system. Has your son tried them out? Which works best for him?

And they deleted the link to the cool silicone stuff.

Oops, my mistake. It is on your other nerf gun thread. Didn't realize there were two.

yeah, graywings, EVERYBODY is tired of me going on and one about my nerf gun project. My coworkers, my DH, my son . . . why should the Organizing forum be exempt? ;-) The horizontal rack is holding up pretty well--Of course, it's only been there about 3 weeks, but so far... I'll say this: It's pretty securely attached!! Of course, I went a little overboard w/ the slip--hey, I had a bunch. I finished, and I'll be uploading pics soon!

Well, it's done. I put the pics up on Photobucket (which, by the way, I absolutely loathe. I cannot figure out how to rotate a picture there and get it to stick; and if I try to add a title, the screen keeps kicking me out of the text box and centering on some other part of the screen. And if I add a photo, it breaks all the links, which is really annoying; I don't see why they can't keep the links steady)
