hanging closet shelf question

I could use your opinion about the best size for hanging closet shelves. Sometimes they are called sweater shelves. Do you think a 12 x12 size is adequate for kids size shirts, pants, undies, pj's - size 4-7 Or should the shelves be larger?
If you have used these to organize kids' clothes instead of dresser drawers, I would apprciate your feedback and recommendations. Thanks

Yes 12x12 Should hold their clothes for a few years. However when they get to be teenagers they will probably be too small for jeans, but still fit t's and sweaters and pj's.

If you are not sure, measure a pile of the folded things you want to put on them. Measuring would also give you an idea of just how much they would hold
