LOL... I've done this before, too! It was a vial of chamomile essential oil which I accidentally dropped and shattered on my bathroom tile floor. I did actually think to save the paper towel used to wipe up the mess, and I put that very fragrant paper towel into the utility room of my house which is where I keep my worm bin (so it can sometimes get a bit rank in there due to composting)... Let's just say my worm bin area and my bathroom both smelled unusually nice for several weeks! :)

Hey Rosey and Fragrant! It is a must that I use vinegar in my water solution so as to water with an acidic solution instead of one to neutral and high in pH. You see, in most cities such as mine, the pH of my water runs as high as 8.0 - 8.7. Using vinegar brings the pH down and temporarily makes all the nutrients available to my plants that otherwise would be held up the the mix from pH that is too high. So I use one tbsp per gallon of water when I start to see the leaves on my plants loose their luster and vivid green. My plants would otherwise be yellow and much malnourished if I did no do so and most likely die. Living in the Caribbean and having friends that are growers of gardenia and citrus in major nurseries that provide the most greenest plants I have ever seen have taught me this secret. Of course they use a different product for industrial purposes to lower their pH water solution but vinegar is a great and cheap sustitute for the home hobbyist. It would be a good idea to check with your water supplier to find out what the pH of your water is. For you Rosey, I wouldn't be surprised if it was over 8.0 and that was a major cause of decline in vigor of some of your plants, especially gardenia. I hope this helps! Lot's of leaf loss here and out of bloom for a while now. I hate it that it won't rebloom until next year at this time. I think it's a lck of sunlight around my parts that causes the leaf loss..Oh well:-( Purple, I never heard of a town called Opp..Cool name! I thought that was the abbreviation for youur town.lol It sounds like a place where you can hear a swarm of bees from a mile away and the sounds of a hummin birds feathers flap as it drinks from your food source! What I would do without noise pollution and the every day cars backed up on the roads. To hear the frog peepers make their music on a first warm spring night. We use to until development took over. I once stayed at my sisters house which is a mile into the woods in the country. It was so dead silent there to sleep, that I could here buzzing noise in my ear all night. I never slept thatn night! A place where you can plant an Osmanthus in the ground and enjoy it's size for years to come! Mike

It's easy to get used to stuffiness or various smells in the home (including stale cooking odors) and we might not realize it unless we go outside and come back in. We had fish on Sunday. I spent all of Monday getting that nasty smell off of my cabinets. I have to agree with you on opening the windows on a regular basis. I try to do this all of the time. Since I don't work and don't go out a lot, I'm in the house more and can tell when the air is stale. Sometimes I would use a vanilla oil near the kitchen. I can't stand spicy smells. They give me headaches. I run away from the scented store areas at Christmas. If someone boiled cloves and oranges or anything with cinnamon, I would probably turn around and head out. That house would be off the list for me. I like the idea of lemon oil or mint. Who makes the apple scented cleaner? I haven't seen that. The scents listed above are things that drive my eyes nuts. Even using lemon scented pledge gets me. Lavender is another scent along with "clean linen" scents. If you do decide to do some sort of scent, be sure to open windows to get clean air in too. The house will retain a little bit of the scent you used but it won't be as strong. I am always suspicious of any strong scents, be it cookies baking and other food smells, candles, potpourri, sprays, etc. as I think the seller is trying to cover up pets, tobacco, or other noxious odors. I got into burning candles after my dad died. A lady I know used to tell me she was lighting candles for me, saying her prayers. I ended up buying some honeysuckle & lilac candles when hubby & I went away after losing both of our fathers. I started burning them because the scents remind me of my dad. Thankfully this forum made me realize that others might not like candles I burn for enjoyment; if we have 24 hours notice, I make sure not to burn them.
