And So It Begins....Old House Repair

The house was built in 1954 per the records. But the foundation was built in 1949. Good bones......

The painting on the first floor went well. I love fresh paint. A little plaster patch here and there and it was good. Not perfect but good. Why did one outlet break when I took off the cover? Oh well, I will replace it.

We ripped out the gold and orange carpet and as expected found oak hardwood floors. The living room floor has carpet padding that seems to have fused with the wood. Now that we scraped the padding off, why does it look like mosaic in the middle?

We will redo the floors!

On to the fixtures and fans. The fixtures are flourescent and hideous.

I will put new fixtures in!

I took a dirty plaster shower when I pulled out the first fixture on the ceiling. Grey plaster and hundreds of dead lady bugs and other insects. New wiring? Uh no. A newer breaker box and perhaps newer wire connected to old. Not what I was expecting. The boxes are so far recessed under the plaster that none of the fixture screws are long enough. I will buy new screws!

And so it begins....
