Storm Window Fabrication

Hi everyone, long time no see. I've been lurking, but I haven't posted a lot lately.

We are having new storm windows made for our lovely 1922 colonial revival. We got a quote which was acceptable, but pine was specified for the wood; I would rather have mahogany. We will ask for another quote, but I thought I'd run it by you guys first. Pine strikes me as soft, susceptible to rot, and attractive to wood-boring insects, while mahogany is harder and less likely to deteriorate in our hot summers and freezing cold winters. (We're in western New York state.) But is the difference enough to justify the price?

Opinions? What do you think?

Vicki
