Additives to oil based primer

My local paint stores no longer sell slow drying oil primer. I was doing a google search and found a comment on-line from Casey from many years ago:

I routinely add extra linseed oil, turpentine, Japan Dryer and paint thinner to primer as desired to tailor it to the surface conditions. You can turn any oil-based primer into a slower-drying penetrating primer by adulterating it with these ingredients.

Can anyone give me more details of how much of these things to add? And wouldn't the Japan Dryer have the opposite effect of speeding up the dry time? For a quart of fast drying primer, how much of these additives would I use?
