| Do you have them? Did you cover them up or keep them exposed?
This is what we found under everything (paneling, wallpaper) when gutting our 1954 home. I would like to keep the walls shiplap where there were no holes cut for electrical and insulation, and put sheetrock on the messed up walls. As for the ceilings, the shiplap isn't as tight as it used to be and stuff comes crumbling down from the attic. It is still very nice looking. I just don't know if it would be worth it to caulk it all (the ceiling) I have seen several homes where the shiplap was painted and I absolutely love it. I have also seen rooms that had the shiplap and sheetrock and it's really pretty too. Thanks for your advice! |

| Kathy, we don't have shiplap in our house, but we have been house-hunting these past few weeks and have seen several houses that do have it. One we really liked was a very small cottage-style home built in 1948 - the entire attic was finished in beautiful honey-colored shiplap... my daughter loved it, that was going to be her room... My only thought, other than that it was really beautiful, was that having it on the ceiling made an already-small space look smaller. I think - if it had been some combination of shiplap walls and painted ceiling, if might have looked a little larger. That's just my .02... it's beautiful, but possible to have "too much," if you know what I mean. Maybe you could use it as accent wall material... or paint one wall an accent color?
