| 1) yes you can temporarily live with unfinished wood floors. Remember though, people finish floors to protect the wood, not just make them look pretty. A single adult probably won't have issues with that, but if you have kids/grandkids/pets running around, they could make a big mess of the place. For cracks, the only thing that seems to get the dirt out for me is a shopvac. That only lasts a short while and then they are dirty again. For 2 years, you will probably just need to learn to live with a little dirt in the cracks. Generally, you'll just want to keep it swept regularly and occasionally mop with a damp mop. 2)Probably varnished. Depending on the area and use, many floors got painted along the way. Since the place is 100 years old, it could have had any number of different finishes along the way. |

| The floors in the old house I live in ( mid 20's) are finished with shellac.....I put varnish over the shellac for wear. If the floors survived 20 years as a group home, I'll bet there is some finish on them. I can't think you will do serious damage if you just leave them the way they are. Linda c |
