How do I size casement window stays?

Last summer I opened up our double casement windows in the sunroom for the first time in decades. I fixed, reglazed and painted all 8 pairs (16 windows, each 24 x 60"). By the time I finished it was fall and we just closed up for the winter.

This spring I jerry rigged a method to keep the windows open, but it doesn't work in a breeze. So now I want to get casement window stays and don't know whether to buy the 8', 10" or 12" versions. Any comments on friction or hole types would also be appreciated. I'm looking for black cast iron.

I found some at van dyke's restorers and at house of antique hardware.

Any suggestions on size and type??

Thanks

The length depends on the size of your window, so you'll need to measure and see how far you want them to open and how long the stay will need to be to achieve that. I think ours were 8" for our 24" windows but may be misremembering--we recently replaced the windows and switched to Whitco hinges. Ours were the friction type and worked fine, although our toddler learned how to unscrew them pretty quickly (but I imagine we'd have had the same issue with the hole type stays, too). Ours were also 100 years old so YMMV with newer hardware!

We have ordered from both of these suppliers and generally been happier with the quality of hardware from House of Antique Hardware, FWIW. (I'm sure some of the products are literally from the same suppliers, though!)
