old tennis shoe smell

Help!
sometimes my house smells like old tennis shoes. ( I did check my son's lol) It is very hard to locate the source.Any ideas? necessary info:
The house was completed before 1820. It has full height basement with concrete floor. the stone foundation has been completely parged. We have 3 sump pumps

Are you in the southeast?

Do you have central air or a Heat Pump?

Google " Dirty Sock Syndrome "

Go over to the Heating and Air Conditioning Forum and visit if you think this is the issue.
