1737 Stone Farmhouse-Terhune House

I have been the owner of a fantastic 1737 stone farmhouse listed on the Historical Registry. Unfortunately, due to work relocation I must sell the house. I was wondering if anyone on this board would be so kind as to direct me to areas where I could find that perfect family who will respect the home's history and preserve it's legacy.

Many thanks in advance,
Mike

P.s.-For anyone interested in more information on the house I have attached a link to the listing. http://www.preservationdirectory.com/HistoricRealEstate/PropertyDetail .aspx?id=702

One idea that is used sometimes in cases of unique places is to have potential buyers write a letter stating why they want the house and how they would take care of it. You invite such letters by an ad in the classifieds. Just don't be taken in only by extremely articulate or flowery letters; sometimes honesty and knowledgability (about such a house) are more important.

The Old House Journal has (or at least, it used to have) a classified section that would be an excellent place to place such an ad.

In our area there are several realtors who specialize in historic houses, and do a good job finding appropriate buyers. You may be able to find such realtors where you live. Ask the local historic preservation organizations.

As a long time preservationist & a former, extremely short time realtor, I can tell you that very few realtors know or care anything about historic properties. It's all about commission; the appropriate buyer is one has the money. Also, there are all kinds of discrimination laws that would prevent a realtor from screening applicants to find those who meet your qualifications of 'suitable'. I think the letter in the Classifieds is a more realistic approach to finding someone sensitive to the needs of a special house. Good luck with your search.
