opinions, suggestions, ideas needed please!

I am looking at having to replace the front porch on my house. I am not thrilled about having to put those tall crib bars up, but the posts are rotting, so some structural work will probably be necessary. I am thinking about simple railings with square balusters. I want to stain them to look like cedar. I am thinking about putting stone veneer on the bottom of the posts. I would like to put stone on the wall also, or possible on the bottom of the porch (skirting and steps). Thoughts? And ideas that sound better? I like the craftsman look. Would it look wrong, in your opinion, to put stone on the wall?

I like the front of your house and the first thing I thought when I looked at your picture was
. But I like this too. They're in the same ballpark:

I'm not sure how I'd blend stone and a railing.

That's beautiful! Found this. I think its perfect, except cedar color on posts, railings and balusters. FYI, not planning on replacing ceiling and roof. Thoughts on stone on the back wall?

Can you post a photo with the roofline showing ? Your house doesn't look arts and crafts and there may be options other than that style that are more appropriate and utilize similar materials.
