My refinished staircase

When we purchased our 1916 bungalow 8 years ago, all the wood (which is QS oak) was very dark and cracked. There were many layers of shellac/varnish, and it was not very pretty. Well, just this past week, I finished this years long project of completely sripping the wood and refinishing. I still have to do one more sanding and another coat of finish.

I just had to share the efforts of all my hard work with someone. Most people wouldn't appreciate all the hard work, but I know those on this forum will. Thanks for taking a look. The first picture shows a small section of the dark finish, and what I found underneath.

WOW!! That woodwork is gorgeous! Oh I hope I can find the dedication and drive you have because I've got some wood to redo myself.

Very nice. Good job. I've been wanting to tackle my staircase but all those spindles scare me away. I've spent too many hours stripping paint already :-(

I've also done the dining room, and have the living room 3/4 done. What a pain in the neck to do all those beams!

You should have a party and confine them to the hall :o) It's absolutely gorgeous and really, pat on the back kind of work :)

I've done my dining room as well plus a couple of bedrooms. Below is the link to my dining room. I love the results but it's a lot of work.

Diane -- absolutely beautiful! Whew! That's alot of wood. I've seen your pictures before and always admired that dining room.

Is that Van Briggle I see on your buffet? Have pieces in that color myself. Lived in Colorado Springs for 30 yrs, and am partial to VB.
