My designer used measurement data from our house to create a CAD file, a copy of which he sent to us. The software that he used is called AutoCAD. Is there another software program (perhaps free?) that will allow us to view the file and take dimensions off of it? We plan on adding a full wrap around covered porch, adding dormers to the attic and lowering basement. I would like to covert those measurements into design ideas on my own. Thanks in advance!

Here is a link for you--I've never tried any autoCAD stuff, but this says it works...and CNET is a great source for all types of software I've used often.

Autodesk (the makers of AutoCAD) has free viewers. I use Autodesk products at work but have never used the viewer so don't know how good it is.

You can view and edit AutoCAD files in any computer in DraftSight which can be downloaded for free.
