| My 1935 garrison colonial has a very small half bath on the first floor that was turned into a broom closet before we bought it. In the old bathroom is a small 2x2ish window that opens into the basement staircase. The other side of the staircase used to be an exterior wall, but it now abuts an addition. Today I noticed the shadow of what looks like a similarly sized window on the other side of the staircase (formerly the exterior wall). Is it possible that when the house was built there were two windows used to vent the bathroom through the staircase? Has anyone seen something similar. |

| The purpose of the windows is likely to have been to borrow natural light since for ventilation purposes both windows would need to be left open. |
