When I've done corners, I bed the tape in the top coat--but I've only done it where both are drywall. I'd use the paper tape as it takes less buildup to cover it.

I like the metal inside corners with paper tape bonded on for these dis-similar material corners. Tape after you have a coat of durabond on the brick, IOW after the surface has been brought up level and just about finished.

Casey, thanks for the reminder. I like the paper/metal tape for all inside corners. That way I can focus on getting a smooth application rather than a perfect corner. Even pre-folding regular paper tape never works as well for me. How thick can the durabond be applied? I think the plaster is about 1 1/2" thick. Maybe I'm just used to drywall mud, but that seems really thick for just one layer of durabond.

Metal backed paper tape or even expanded metal mesh if you have enough wall thickness to bed it in. I would probbaly cut away a lot of the drywall surface to gain bedding depth.

Durabond can be as thick as you want.

I have used it to replace plaster grounds occasionally, and those are a full 3/4 inch thick.

Mix it with minimal water to about peanut butter consistency and the shrinkage is very small (unlike pre-mix that shrinks like crazy as it hardens by drying).

Not having to repeatedly hit screw head dimples is reason enough to use Easysand.

Plaster and setting joint compound harden by chemical reaction, not water evaporation.
