These stairs are too modern, but I didn't know how to describe what I wanted to say. If you took the little cabinet out to the right you could do a wider stair at the bottom and a little bit smaller stair above it.

Personally speaking. I would move the fridge to where the microwave is, tear out the cabinets above it, move the small cabinet to under the window, tear out the wall to open the dining and kitchen area up. Then add steps the full length of the opening.

Thanks hippy and cheryis67. I love both your ideas. Opening the whole wall would be great and a perfect opportunity to re-do the kitchen. I'm gonna talk it over with the kids and get started.
